In view of the Ukraine dispute, the number of flights between the two countries will increase
Indian officials are in talks with several airlines to
increase the number of flights from Ukraine for the convenience of Indians
living there amid tensions over Ukraine. The increase in the number of flights
is mainly for Indian students, who have been asked to consider leaving Ukraine
in view of the situation there.
Regarding this, discussions are going on with civil aviation
officials and several airlines on how to increase the number of flights between
India and Ukraine. An official told Hindustan Times that we know that many
Indian students are currently in Ukraine and their families are worried about
when they will come to India.
Ministry of External Affairs is setting up control room
Control rooms are being set up by the Indian Embassy and the
Ministry of External Affairs in the Ukrainian capital Kiev to answer questions
from Indian citizens in Ukraine and their families in India. The Indian Embassy
in Kiev had asked Indians, especially students, to consider going out of the
country and avoid non-essential travel within the country amid fears of
aggression. The embassy is monitoring the developments to deal with any case.
About 20 thousand Indians are living in Ukraine
According to reports, more than 20 thousand people are
living in Ukraine. Out of this, about 18 thousand are students. Some students
have also raised concerns about the rising prices of flights to India. New
Delhi has so far shied away from criticizing Russia's actions on the border
with Ukraine given its close strategic ties with Moscow. India has insisted on
a peaceful resolution of the situation in Ukraine through diplomatic efforts.
Russia has announced an end to ongoing military exercises in
Crimea and said troops are withdrawing. Russian state media have shown pictures
and videos of soldiers returning. Earlier on February 15, there were reports
that some Russian soldiers had been withdrawn, although Russia's military
exercises with Belarus are continuing.
US President Joe Biden has said Moscow may still attack Kiev
with Russia withdrawing some troops. However, Vladimir Putin has consistently
denied attacking Ukraine.
